Syracuse University and PICTURE BERLIN are collaborating on a new study abroad program called Portfolio Berlin.
Anyone can apply and the deadline is 20 February.
Portfolio Berlin is a 14 day immersion in Berlin’s contemporary art scene. Students will participate in a series of group and individual critiques with a select group of contemporary artists and curators who will help students edit their portfolios for presentation to galleries, curators and publishers as well as developing strategies to begin their careers as working artists.
Portfolio Berlin serves as a bridge between a student’s academic career and their professional life as an artist. Berlin attracts artists, curators, theorists and writers from all over the world with a dynamic and constantly changing art scene of over 750 galleries, museums and artist run project spaces. This class will introduce students to a broad range of contemporary art by attending art openings, meeting practicing artists, curators and writers in a setting that is unique, vibrant and impossible to re-create on campus or anywhere else, but Berlin.
Portfolio Berlin is designed for advanced BFA undergraduates with at least three years of study and MFA graduate students. It is open to artists working in any media, discipline or performance practice. The students must possess a fairly accomplished body or work and be ready to discuss their practice and creative ideas in a variety of contexts with a series of professional artists and curators.
